Help! I Am Losing Weight

Anyone who knows me will have heard me at some point ranting about how I need to lose weight.  So I forgive you for thinking I should be overjoyed that I am finally losing some weight.  Well I am, to an extent. I am happy to be losing the weight on my body but its the weight or swelling on my feet I am not so happy about. When I got pregnant my feet went half a size up from a 7 to 7.5 (40 -41) and stayed that way even after birth. I ranted and raved about it but since I didn’t know of any exercise to trim down your feet I shut up and accepted it.

When LO turned one I finally accepted that I was now a size 7.5 gave up my old shoes and proceeded to restock after all who won’t snap up an opportunity to shop, right? Now a year and 9 months later the weight or swelling has dropped off my feet and I am back to a size 7 aaarrrrrgggghhhhhh!  I have tried shoe pads, stuffing, nothing is working, the shoes just keep slipping off my feet.

According to the March issue of the American Journal of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Doctors believe the arch of the foot flattens out, and in turn, the foot length increased between 2 and 10 millimeters (about 0.1 to 0.4 inches) possibly due to the extra weight and increased looseness of the joints associated with pregnancy . This loss of arch height is most likely permanent. The article also claims that this could lead to arthritis later in life so I should be happy that my feet has gone back to a 7.

I used to be the queen of 6 inch heels, I even wore them when I was pregnant till the very end (the week I gave birth) however, after giving birth I  gradually started to feel pain in heels. I am not even sure when this started.  It might be because I have a toddler or maybe I finally have to accept that I am getting old. I find myself putting my shoes on Ebay after one wear.  I can’t believe I am saying this but I can’t wait for winter maybe tights would help. Don’t know what else to do. I need help!

Keeping Busy

I am one for buying stuff purely for the aesthetics. Of late I have been getting really bored of my house. A slow downwards spiral. I desperately want to move so while I search for a place. I keep looking at stuff that would make my house more interesting. Something to make me less likely to jump on the first house I see like a girl who hasn’t been asked on a date in years. I am trying to fall in love with the house again, so when I see things like this

Big Decs Rooster Egg Holder, Bronze

Big Decs Rooster Egg Holder

I convince myself that this is what my kitchen needs to turn me into the ultimate culinary chef. Never mind that they hold just eggs. Which the supermarket carton does really well as that is its sole purpose in life or that if my son accidentally gets hold of this “bang goes the theory” as all the eggs dance on the floor. The heart wants what the heart wants. Besides it’s in the sale. Half prices is surely better than full price.

Another dilemma that is totally driving me nuts (1st world problems hey) is my unending stash of spices. Unending I say because I totally forget that I have them. As Michael McIntyre says in his joke “paprika – I have never been out“. I have all my spices stashed in a tin and I totally forget its there and keep replenishing the stock – hence the unending supply. I desperately need on of these kitchen rack stands to sort my life out. Preferably this spice rack

shame its fathers day soon and not mothers day. I can totally think of a gift for myself. 🙂

Accidental Review – Sainsbury’s Basic Nappies

sainsburys basic nappies

Sainsbury’s basic nappies

This product accidentally came into my life one Saturday when we ran out of nappies. I had ordered a carton of our favourite brand Pampers (after Huggies stopped trading in the UK) and was due to pick it up from the store on Sunday. However by Saturday we had run out of nappies at home. I need a few nappies to tide us over till Sunday so we popped in to Sainsbury’s to buy some emergency supplies. LO was sleeping in the car so I instructed hubby to buy something cheap. I was really horrified when he came back with sainsbury’s basic nappies. I expected him to go cheap but not that cheap, more like Sainsbury’s little ones cheap.

For the first time in my life I have to say that I am happy that DH is cheap :-). The nappies are £1.41 for a pack of 20 (£0.07 per nappy, same pack of Pampers retails at £0.32 per nappy) a really good bargain. They are not that great for night-time wear as the padded bit in my opinion should be wider. So in the night I still use Pampers baby dry. I was scared that LO might break out in a rash (don’t ask me why), however 3 weeks on no sign of any rash. I am now on the hunt for a cheaper night alternative. Any suggestions?

Sunglasses For Spring & Summer

designer sunglasses trends

designer sunglasses@shelovestorant

We’ve officially entered the spring and summer season, and that means that, as usual, we are about to be inundated with fashion advice from all corners. Catalogues, fashion blogs, billboards, television ads, shop windows, and even our friends *winks* will all be displaying the latest warm weather styles, and we’ll all be tempted to do a bit of a wardrobe update. But really, the clothes usually take care of themselves. It’s the accessories that can get tricky. My hubby recently travelled back home where it so warm and sunny, so I have been browsing sunglasses.

In particular, trends in spring and summer sunglasses can be a bit difficult to read or pick up on. In fact, not everyone is even able to take advantage of these accessory trends, depending on eyecare needs (I wear prescription lenses). But whether you typically avoid sunglasses altogether, pop in your acuvue contact lenses  so you can free up your eyes for sunglasses, or even opt for prescription sunglass lenses, these trends exist, and sometimes they’re the most enjoyable ones to take advantage of. Along those lines, here are 5 fun and fashionable trends in sunglasses for spring and summer of 2013 (Yep I am in with the fashion blogs :-)).

1. Bold Stripes

One of the most noticeable accessory trends on spring and summer fashion runways was boldly striped frames on sunglasses. High-end designers like D&G displayed just about every combination of colour imaginable in these striped frames, which tend to go on oversized frames with dark lenses.

2. White Frames

For a somewhat retro look this spring and summer, you might be able to have some fun with some all-white sunglasses frames. Typically contrasted with dark lenses, these glasses come in all different shapes and sizes, but absolutely display a bold and confident sense of fashion.

3. Round Glasses

In the past few years, summer sunglasses have trended toward blockier, more angled shapes. This spring and summer, however, you can certainly expect to see some round frames out and about, and this too evokes a sort of vintage, retro feel. Round frames certainly don’t work for everybody, but if you’re looking for a more unique and noticeable option this is a trend to consider.

4. All-Black

Not exactly a surprise, all-black sunglasses are once again making the rounds in spring and summer fashion. Perhaps the most traditional look for a pair of sunglasses, black frames with black lenses will always be stylish. Plus they go with everything.

5. Colourful Lenses

Finally, if you want to have a bit more fun with your spring and summer glasses selection, consider coloured lenses. Whether it’s a fading neutral colour combination, or something a bit brighter such as a pink or blue lens, there are plenty of options out there worth considering. Particularly in a beach environment, these lenses can be very enjoyable in the summer.

Well, I am off to tour the web and find some glasses I can actually afford. Would keep you posted on my spring/summer finds. BrB.

Spring Cleaning

scattered wardrope

my messed up wardrobe

In the last couple of years, I have worked my way through a few sizes. Going from a size 4 when I came to this country (yep I was seriously under weight) cue in McDonalds, KFC and chinese coupled with the life of a student I shot to a 6 then to an 8 after marriage, 10 after child-birth and now back to an 8 with folds. A real yoyo experience. It took me a while to accept that I would never get back to a 6 so I have decided to sort out my wardrobe. Out with the old and in with the new. I would like to create a capsule wardrobe consisting of only clothes I actually wear. Like most girls I have over 10 pairs of jeans but I only ever wear 2. This spring I aim to get rid of the remaining 8+ and all the other clothes in my wardrobe I can’t actually fit in to. I am also one of those people whose feet never recovered from child-birth so I have a box of shoes some where that I still can’t wear except someone invents foot reduction surgery.

I hope this spring clean is successful because in the past I have tried to do it but ended up getting too sentimental about my heap. Amongst the stuff I feel so sad parting with are my choir uniforms. Most of them are a size 6 and even though I could still squeeze into them when I was a slim 8 now I am a big 8 (tummy not yet completely flat) the clothes feel a bit tight. The thought of having to start getting them all over again is so discouraging; black suit, grey suit, brown suits, white suit not to mention the shirts the list is endless.

This time around I have decided to sell the lot may be the money incentive would motivate me to actually do it. My usual hunts where eBay and preloved I sold some of my sons old stuff there. I have just discovered that music magpie sell clothes. I didn’t know you could actually sell clothes on their site I used to think they just sold old CD’s (apparently this is a new feature). They give you an instant quote and you can decide if you want to sell or not, cutting out all the hassle of bidding. You know what you are getting from the start. I am off to hunt for some treasure and give it a try. New clothes I can smell you already. Would let you know how it goes.

I Told You So

There are four words everyone hates to be told by their spouse – I told you so. However it’s so hard not to say those words when they ring so true. During our pre-marriage counselling we were warned about the pit falls of pointing fingers, keeping scores and the need to always be right. I think DH was asleep during this particular session as he never admits to being wrong so on a rear occasion when he does, it deserves to be documented for the sake of posterity (nope I am not keeping scores *winks* I am better than that).

You know how when its one season you totally forget what the other seasons feel like. When its winter you forget warmth and sunshine. That is what happened when we went duvet shopping last winter. DH proclaimed that nothing else would do but a 30 tog duvet. I tried to convince him to get a dual duvet made for both seasons or buy a lesser tog and dress warm to bed so when it summer or spring we would not need to get another duvet. He said he would rather buy two duvet one for summer and one for winter. While this may seem like a brilliant plan squashing a 30 tog duvet into the wardrobe isn’t an easy task. So out went the plan. Besides it was winter at the time so we didn’t really dwell on it.

Now a little sunshine is upon us the 30 tog duvet is way too hot. Despite opening the window through the night I still wake up drenched in sweat. DH has finally admitted defeat. We need a spring/summer duvet. I am now scouting the internet looking for a suitable duvet. However, when a shopaholic goes online she loses focus. Why not get bedspreads, throws and other accessories give the bedroom a spring make over. You know how much I love matching stuff. You see darling being wrong is going to cost you. So whats the moral of this story you might ask? Never admit to being wrong :-).

PS. DH totally hates throws. He says they have no practical use than to sit at the foot of a bed. Who cares I am getting one any way.

Let it Snow! Let it Snow!

Just when I write a post about spring, here comes snow to laugh in my face. The last time it snowed, I didn’t take my son out to play. I was worried that he might get a cold and I didn’t want to risk it because of work. Also, I didn’t have the right gear. I am not quite sure if I should still buy snow boots or wellies seeing it’s almost spring. Even the shops are preaching the spring message by not stocking any winter wear. The weather however is refusing to cooperate . I went into a shop to look for thick gloves for my son and I, I was informed by the shop assistant that they are no longer in stock because it is spring. My reply “wishing its spring doesn’t actually make it come true does it”.

I am now forced to browse speciality shops online. My dilemma now is what size to buy. I can’t buy his actual size now as spring is almost here (touch wood). I can’t buy a size up because by next winter he would have out grown it. I can’t buy two sizes up as that would definitely be a health and safety issue in the snow. Decisions, decisions maybe I should just keep him in doors but then the guilt sets in like he is missing out on something. Arhhhhhhhh! Can I pray for more snow so my purchase can be justified?

Let it snow! Let it snow!

Dressing Up My Baby

I am one of those mums who like to colour coordinate with their off spring (Yep, I am one of those). I used to wonder what that was all about until I fell pregnant. I just couldn’t help myself. I prayed for a girl so I could make her a mini me. An extension of my fashion ego *winks* (yes that’s a thing, if it isn’t then it should be). DH was worse than me, he Goggled “how to make a girl” (serious was our obsession). You can imagine my disappointment when I found out it was a boy. Truth be told, I shed a few vain tears. I didn’t even start shopping for my baby until I was 9 months pregnant. I just couldn’t get excited. I kept feeling there was nothing exciting to buy for a boy (I shriek at the vanity of these thoughts).

I repented of my thoughts when I started reading a lot of mummy blogs and several baby sites the first of which was Baby Centre. I read about many women with sick babies, in an out of hospitals everyday. People who were genuinely scared about the health of their kids, women struggling with infertility. I even had a scare of my own when I was told by my mid-wife at a routine scan that they couldn’t see all the parts of my baby’s heart. I was referred to St Thomas Hospital. I remember walking through the hospital and seeing all those sick children. The forced cheer in the atmosphere; created by toys and colourful paintings. Parents holding hands in the waiting rooms with fear in their eyes. As I read the consent form before the scan all I could think of was God I just want a healthy baby. Thankfully my baby was fine and he was born a whopping 4.5kg. When I saw him, it didn’t matter if he was a boy or a girl. To me he was the most beautiful creature I had ever seen and I loved him more than I did myself. He has brought me so much pleasure that I seriously consider stopping at one. I keep asking DH “If I have another one how would I love another child like I love him”?

One of my favourite activities is still dressing him up. Especially in the mornings as we prepare for work, when I dry his hair after a bath he always lifts up his head  for a kiss. This has become one of our traditions. I still don’t have a lot of coordinated clothes. One sweater which I blogged about. I think our niche is shoes. I am usually a girlie girl but I am now embracing the sporty spice vibe.

Mother and Baby Shoes

Our few matchy’s and the new shoe I am trying to match.

LO converse is now too small. I am even trying to sell it on Preloved. I have now started visiting sites like JD Sports (never used to be on my shopping map). I even saw some girly wedge trainers. Yea, yea ,I know I am on a spending ban however I didn’t say LO was on one too.

Funny how little things can bring so much Joy.

I Think I Smell Spring

There are several rows of shops on my way to work.  As a recovering shopperholic I find it difficult to resist looking into the windows as I walk pass. Thank God they are never open in the mornings and after work I have to make a dash for it. However, I often find myself online looking through the new collections longingly. I have been resisting the urge to go online but its my birthday month yippee and I am on the hunt for a party dress.

All my usual shops have let me down as I have not found anything remotely interesting. Usually when I shop online I just browse my usual hang outs however this time due to my lack of success, I decided to dig a little deeper. I discovered a new site Bank Fashion . Still didn’t find my party dress and I got side tracked by this little number. I am in love.

Pinnie Dress

Red or Dead Pinnie Dress

Red or Dead isn’t a brand I usually buy. The only item of theirs I own is a pair of prescription glasses. So dear friends if you are looking for what to get me for my birthday your search is over LOL.  I usually get a dress for my birthday every year. This year I am thinking of a change of style maybe a skirt or some thing really different. This season tribal prints, sequins and monochrome are in. I am having a Bollywood themed party (so monochrome is out, too boring), so I have been looking for something suitably sparkly and yet hot, hot, hot.  These are some of my Red or Dead/Forever Unique finds on Bank.

I am so excited I know about 10 people born in march. Yesterday I was at ping pong with one of them. Would share how that went when I do another My Week in Food Post. I cant wait to see what this month holds. So many birthdays, so much food.

Happy New Month Peeps. I wish you all loads of happiness in this new month.
